Epitaxial growth

The major challenge in processing high performance layers is anisotropy of electro ceramic material. Anisotropy describes the phenomenon of the dependence of material properties from crystallographic orientation. To accomplish high quality layers, all crystals in a layer have to be orientated in the same direction.

This orientation is achieved by a reliable crystal growing process of the ceramic layer, the epitaxial growth.

The essential basis for a directed growth of layers is the use of a template, otherwise a random orientated growth would appear. In this particular technology, the substrate acts as this template initiating the orientated crystal growth. A special orientated Nickel-Tungsten alloy is used for HTS wires.

Deutsche Nanoschicht GmbH developed a unique process which allows the subsequent deposition up to ten epitaxially grown layers, thus excellent properties in electro ceramic layers are achieved.
